Cash For Clunkers was officially known as the Car Allowance Rebate System. The US spent billions in an effort to provide economic incentives to residents that purchased vehicles that were more fuel efficient. It was also a stimulus program to help sales of vehicles. It started in July of 2009 and ended in August of that same year.
